SOCIAL MISSION

Our brand was born out of founder Julia Kastner's work with Kiva.org in the field of microfinance in Mexico.  We are passionate about connecting with the people around the world who create our jeans, and we are thoughtful about our impact on the planet.  Our mission is make beautiful apparel made with transparency and respect for people and planet.

Organic & Fair Trade

Twenty-five percent of the world's pesticides are used for cotton farming and many cotton farms in countries like Uzbekistan use forced child labor to pick cotton. Our denim supplier, Arvind Agribusiness, works with family farms in Akola, Maharashtra, India, to help these farms achieve organic certification, decrease the use of pesticides, and increase the yields of their farms, tripling the farms' incomes. Our aim is to use respectful and fair employment to raise these families out of poverty.

We work with an American nonprofit called NEST and an Indian company called MORALFIBRE to source hand-block-printed and handwoven fabrics in India.  Our partners ensure better wages and working conditions for these Indian artisans, and, through access to education and healthcare, better futures for their children. Five percent of the costs of all materials bought from MORALFIBRE is donated to NEST to support their efforts around the world.

Sustainable Production in the USA

A traditional pair of jeans uses 42 liters of water in production. Our jeans undergo fewer washes than the average pair of jeans, saving more than 50% of water used in the washing process.

Our garments are made in sample shops and factories in the New York City Garment District.  We are looking into additional factories as we grow, but we are committed to keeping our production in the U.S.A.
